Chef Nikolas Ramirez
Holding to his father’s mantra, “Love what you do and never work a day in your life,” Nik Ramirez pursued a career in professional soccer, a profession that led him from the warm breezy islands of Hawaii to the cold climates of Romania. The world of competitive sports taught him valuable principles that served him from soccer to the kitchen.
Born in Maui, Nik came to Santa Barbara for college, followed by his move career to Eastern Europe for soccer competition. After a year in professional soccer, Nik was ready for a change. With encouragement from friends and family, he entered the Culinary Arts program at Santa Barbara City College in 2008. It wasn’t long before Nik’s dedication and passion were recognized. He soon found leading positions in the city – first as sous chef, then chef de cuisine at the iconic Wine Cask and then as sous chef at the Belmond El Encanto.
Having found what he loved to do, Chef Ramirez dove into expanding his culinary repertoire, making his way to award-winning restaurants 22 Kitchen & Bar at the Dusit Thani hotel and Gaggan, both in Bangkok, Thailand, culminating to 108 in Copenhagen. These influences, along with his mastery of flavors discovered during his global adventures throughout Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, France, Copenhagen and more, bring him finally to his own kitchen at Tyger Tyger where he can express his ideas and passion for Asian inspired cuisine.
